First game on TV5…

15 08 2009

Well Lyon did not show its best game, but the second half was good. One player defenitely stood out and that is Lisandro Lopez. Great technique, lots of movement, distributing balls, in short very reassuring. Actually reminded me of Cantona, not so much in the style but the look.

Anyway, Lyon won 1-0, still need to improve a lot to be a contender for the title this, especially considering the pace that Bordeaux started at. Bastos is in search of himself, Cris is still struggling since his long gone injury, Gomis is offside about a million times per game, maybe he doesn’t know the rule, it would be nice for somebody on the team or for Puel to let him know.

And today was also the start of the EPL and it starts well, I am watching Arsenal against Everton at Everton and Arsenal leads 3-0. That is awesome.

Below just a video of Lisandro Lopez’s goal in 07/08 for FCP.

What a boring game! Except for a very nice shot by Ribery that scored the goal, there wasn’t much to the game. What a boring game! Luyindula tried in first half, a little… Sagna was definitely not having his best game, Toulalan wasn’t really there either. What a boring game! Here is the best part, don’t ask for more…

UEFA Champions League

20 03 2009

This is going to be exciting, especially Barcelona – Bayern and Liverpool – Chelsea. I am actually for once hoping that Chelsea will win, but in the end, as I said in previous posts, I think that Barcelona’s got the cup, who knows? maybe an upset!

Villarreal - Arsenal 07/04 » 15/04
Man. United - Porto 07/04 » 15/04
Liverpool - Chelsea 08/04 » 14/04
Barcelona - Bayern 08/04 » 14/04

Oh well!

So, as a follow up to my last post, Lyon lost again, and actually for the first time at home this season, now one point ahead of Marseille and Paris. This sucks! Lyon was getting booed at half time by its own fans. That’s not right, but that shows how under performing OL is. The defense is really scary, the offense doesn’t seem to be worried or motivated by the game. So what’s next? What is the “great” Puel going to do to motivate the troops? Actually the real question is what is Aulas going to do? He will piss off some people, I just don’t know who yet. Anyway, that was a bad moment again, third time this past week.

So, as a good “francais moyen”, I had to find a way to make myself feel better about the whole thing. The first attempt was by watching a movie, a great movie, but not the kind that makes you feel better, Defiance.

An amazing true story about the holocaust, a group of partisans in then Poland, the Bielski partisans. They fought the nazis throughout the war and rescued jews from deportation and extermination. I am not going to review the movie, as I am no expert, but in my opinion this is a great movie, a great movie based on a book written by Nechama Tec based on reality. I am actually planning to read her book, just for more historical accuracy.

As I was saying, the movie was great, but it’s not what makes you feel better really! Then came an idea to my mind to watch the final of the 1998 world cup. Desperate times call for desperate measures. And that did the trick!

It is so good to watch this first half again, the second half was, as it was almost 11 years ago, very painful until the very last minute and Petit’s goal. The good old Zidane in that first half was so amazing, as were Lizarazu and Deschamps. I had forgotten how bad Guivarc’h and Karembeu were. Guivarc’h missed some “you-do-not-miss” goals, Karembeu kept trying some half volley crosses… But Deschamps was making up for them in his technical game on that day.

These two headers from Zidane are just priceless, absolutely clean…

I felt much better after that, until for some reason, popped in my head the 2006 final… That’s for another time…

Allez l’OL.

Manchester 1 – 4 Liverpool

14 03 2009
Oh, this week ends on a better note. I am not feeling as bad about Lyon’s loss, time does its work… And Liverpool took good care of one of my least favorite clubs. Four goals on Van Der Saar, ouch! Van Der Saar had been keeping his goal safe for too long now… So “manure” lost Ronaldo did very little, Vidic got a red card, Ferdinand looked “funny”!

But Liverpool looked clean, almost no mistake in their game, it was a pleasure to see. Steven Gerrard is quite a player and how about Torres. Congratulations to Liverpool fans and thank you for making my day a better one.

In the mean, I am waiting impatiently for tomorrow’s game for Lyon against Auxerre. I am waiting to be impressed. Their first game against Barcelona was very nice but we need more, too much disappointment this year, we need a spark, a vibe, something…

I can’t wait to see Benzema play as he announced his decision to stay with l’OL. I really wish for him though that we get a real coach some day and get to the end of this damn Champions league we love….

Anyway, tomorrow I will write about Lyon’s victory.

Oh, and today I met a fan l’ASSE, hurts just to say it… but it was with great pleasure that I made few jokes at his expense.

Confrontations 42
Lyon win 18 (42.86%)
Draw 14 (33.33%)
Saint-Etienne win 10 (23.81%)
Goals for Lyon 57
Goals for Saint-Etienne 45
On this note, have a fun Saturday night.

First post

Since I seem to be in search of a time waster, I decided to start “writing” a blog. I guess, video games, facebook, tv, none of this is enough already… So let’s waste away.

I guess the content of this page will depend on my mood, but today I am still recovering from Lyon’s defeat in the UEFA Champions League (http://news-sports.org, http://www.uefa.com). I forgot to mention that I am French and I love soccer. I know, it isn’t very original.

So Lyon lost, and lost against Barcelona by a score of 5-2. In fact, it isn’t a defeat, it’s a humiliation. And the game ended with Juninho getting a red card. One good thing though today, no more italian teams either.

Barcelona, is probably the best team in Europe right now, so I guess that helps feeling a little better about it. And it could be worse, I could have been a Sporting fan and watch my team getting destroyed by Bayern Munich, 7-1, 12-1 in aggregate, that has got to make you wonder why you were there in a first place.

Now I think that Barcelona is going all the way to the end and win it, the question is, against who? If I had to guess, I would say Manchester, which I really would not like to see in final again, just because Cristiano Ronaldo annoys the hell out of me, he’s good, but he’s f…ing annoying with the attitude. I’d love to see Arsenal in final but I am not sure they have the juice to get there. Chelsea, is in the same boat, not too impressed so far this year. Bayern did impress against Sporting but I think that was the weakest (is that strong enough of a word to describe it?) team in the competition, so maybe, maybe not. Liverpool, they always play a strong game, the mental seems to break at crucial times though almost always. Villareal, Porto, nope.

So I will root for Arsenal. I will hope Manchester fails. But I really think Messi will hold the cup.

I know some will be pissed reading this, but it’s just a few thoughts, if they make you want to use a bad word, go do something else that makes you happy, unless of course you are enjoying getting pissed off.

Anyway, time to go waste my time somewhere else for tonight.
